The Queen is Dead. Long Live the Queen.

If you pay attention to such things (or if you are one of my stalkers), you may have noticed that this blog name has changed from Emma Foster Romance to Julie Wrote A Book. You may be saying to yourself, why did Emma Foster change her name? The answer is, Emma Foster was never my name. It was all a ruse to create a massive romance empire under a fake name. But, as it happened, I can't keep up a pen name. Keeping up another personality in addition to all the voices inside my own head is just way too much work…

Heat Up Your Winter With Jaxon Dawes

That pottery scene in “Ghost” never did a whole lot for me. Sure, Patrick Swayze was pretty to look at, (remind me to tell you about the time I met him, and he kissed me on the cheek, by the way) but the goopy mess all over their hands? Blech. Not sexy at all. I never got why everyone went so crazy over that. But recently I came across a short video on Instagram. A man sat in a dim room, forming a vessel with his hands. He never spoke, but a haunting music played while his hands shaped the…

Indie Authors I Love: R.A. Roque

Why do I love R.A. Roque? First: she lives in Canada, and said I can come live with her if The Devil Incarnate is elected next week. Second: she homeschools four kids AND writes romance, like me, so hashtag twinsies. But she also works full time teaching music so she kicks my ass. But she’s nice about it. (See: Canadian) Third: She writes sci-fi romances, and her characters have cool mental powers. Like me. They are telepaths, kinetics, and one of them can manifest things out of thin air. Fourth: Did I mention her books are hot? Check her out here. You…

Moonstone Heart is Here!

I'm so excited for this one, friends. Here's how it came about: I started thinking about love triangles, and how they are usually so frustrating to me. When they are told from one person's point of view, and it's just a matter of our heroine getting her man, that's not so interesting. What is that other woman doing? What the heck was that guy thinking? So I decided to tell the story of a love triangle from each perspective. I imagined that they were each decent, though flawed, people going after what they wanted in life. I wanted readers to…

Sparking Joy. Or Whatever.

Here's a sneak peek of my new book, Moonstone Heart, out on June 1. Isn't that pretty? The cover was made by my girl Alli, and you should check out her Etsy shop. She has all sorts of bookish things for nerds like us. I'm pretty sure this one was designed specifically with me in mind:   Some things from around the world and the web that I think are bitchen: Working: At first, I thought the whole notion of 'housework equals spiritual fulfillment' bugged me just because I'm not a very good housekeeper. But as it happens, Other people agree that…

Santorini, s'agapo!

Book Four in The Way to Her Heart Series published last week. In this book, Chef London Demerez goes to the beautiful island of Santorini, Greece. She drags along her handsome French boyfriend, Laurent, for a holiday, but finds herself in an unexpected complication that challenges their young relationship. I love all of the books, but in all honesty Greece was the most fun to write. Things get real for Chef London - high drama! Oh, that lovely lady just can't seem to get her act together. YET. I'm pretty sure London is headed toward a happy ending, but she's overcoming some obstacles along the way first. It's the…

Social Media

Hello friends and Happy Weekend! It's been a really fun week around here! Book 3 Paris published (yay!) and I've had Paris on the brain nonstop all week. Looking through my French cookbooks, browsing Pinterest for pictures of Paris in winter, etc. My sister got me hooked on Instagram, and I started my own account and even managed to hook it into the blog. So, I've never been much of an Early Adopter. Maybe one day soon I'll try that newfangled Facebook thing all the kids are talking about.* But I'm liking the Instagram. I think the reason I'm taking…

Bonjour Paris

I'm so excited to tell you that Book 3 is nearly here!  Paris at Christmas - ooh lalala. I had so much fun writing this one - reliving some fun days and delicious food in the beautiful City of Lights. In case you haven't noticed, I am wildly in love with the cover art for this book series.  They are created for me by the crazy talented Alli Smith, and you should totally go check out her other book designs.  She's awesome. Here is a typical conversation: Alli: What do you want on the cover? Me: I don't care.  You decide. …

The Pork Roast Story

Book Two went up yesterday, leading to more happy tears and a little bit more lemon cake. Don't judge. TWTHH: New York is the second volume of the London Demerez series.  London goes to visit her sister in New York and tastes the best sandwich on the planet, a Cubano at a hole-in-the-wall joint.  This becomes the back of the book recipe, and it requires a slow roasted pork roast. Obviously, having really great recipes in the books is a huge priority, and I work hard testing and retesting recipes before I publish.  Unfortunately, in the summer of 2015,  it was…

Last night I gathered some of my favorite people (hubby, kids, Riley and her family) and we ate dinner together and opened some champagne.  My daughter made lemon cake.  Then we hit the "Publish" button and the kids popped little streamers and I cried happy tears. Book One is up for sale here.   If you buy it you will make my day.  Book Two ought to go live any day.  Exciting stuff, friends!!
