Book Two went up yesterday, leading to more happy tears and a little bit more lemon cake. Don’t judge.
TWTHH: New York is the second volume of the London Demerez series. London goes to visit her sister in New York and tastes the best sandwich on the planet, a Cubano at a hole-in-the-wall joint. This becomes the back of the book recipe, and it requires a slow roasted pork roast.
Obviously, having really great recipes in the books is a huge priority, and I work hard testing and retesting recipes before I publish. Unfortunately, in the summer of 2015, it was Surface-of-the-Sun Hot in California. I kept putting off trying out the pork roast recipe for the book because who wants to make a pork roast when it’s 150 degrees* outside? Not me.
Alas, the deadline was looming, and I had to get it done. I cranked up the A/C, turned on the oven, and made a roast. Which nobody liked. So I changed the recipe and cooked it again the next night. And the next. And then two more times. I tweaked that recipe again and again and my family ate pork roast 5 nights in a row during the hottest week of the summer. I have put them off pork forever.
The recipe is super good though. You should totally make it. You will notice that the final published recipe is actually a slow cooker recipe, not a true roast recipe. In the book I say that is because London prefers a shredded meat for the sandwich instead of sliced meat. But it’s also slightly possible that on the final day of recipe testing, the thought of turning on my oven was soul sucking.
Book 3 publishes in the beginning of November – make sure you sign up for my mailing list and I will let you know. Because PARIS!

Loved Book 1 & 2! I’m almost more excited about the blog than the books – I love your humor and your writing style.
And now I’m craving lemon cake and champagne.
